The 11th CPC Congress of Tianjin University was held from February 22 to 24, 2023. The Congress reviewed the work of the university since the 10th CPC Congress and drew a new blueprint for high-quality development of Tianjin University.

Professor Yang Xianjin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University, on behalf of the 10th CPC Tianjin University Committee, delivered a report entitled “Strive towards a new paradigm for the development of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics”.

The student representatives form an important part of the congress delegates. A total of 30 students from all schools and colleges were elected as delegates. After the Congress, student delegates shared their opinions.

Student delegate Zhao Yaqiu, Grade 2022 doctoral student from the School of Earth System Science, said: “I am really honored to attend this Congress as a student delegate. After listening to the report delivered by Party Secretary Yang, I am very excited. The report enables me to have a more comprehensive grasp of the university’s development. What impressed me most is the initiative to strongly support the disciplinary construction of basic sciences, which was mentioned many times in the report. Supporting the disciplinary construction of basic sciences is also like a commitment to us graduate students, so that we dare to think, dare to do, and be able to do! As a doctoral student majored in environmental science, I have deeply experienced the improvement and upgrading of the laboratory platforms during my three years’ study in the School of Earth System Science. My main research direction is on the application of stable isotope fraction of heavy metals, which can be carried out only with the advanced large-scale precision instrument of the School. In addition, the School also supports our innovative projects for the arts and sciences, and I have successfully applied for one, which motivates me to go further on my road of research. I still have a few years of study at Tianjin University, and I hope to witness the development of the university, just as it has witnessed my development. The students will witness the development of the university and the implementation of its measures, and the university will witness the development and improvement of the students, which will leave an unforgettable memory for my postgraduate life.
