On October 2, 2016, the new English website of Tianjin University is trialed. The New English website will utilize international standards to set the constructive goal of serving international teachers and students, disseminating culture, and focusing on academic research. Thus it strives to reflect a combination of scientific spirit and traditional Chinese culture, so as to build a good international image.
The main design style of the new English website will be consistent with the Chinese website at Tianjin University, using blue and reddish brown as the main colors, while adopting the universal wide-design style. The new website divides the categories into different columns according to the different content, such as, About TJU, Admissions, Academics, Research and Campus Life, and sets up fast channels like, Students, Recruitment, Alumnus, Media and Donations. It strives to make it more convenient to provide information from the user’s point of view. Website settings and style design all meet the international standard — stylish and elegant, highlighting service and functionality.
Serving International Teachers and Students; Attracting Outstanding Talent
The new English website will be user-centric in order to allow overseas users to have more convenient access to information. And it also integrates content related to overseas students into a Students fast channel for sections on: About TJU, Admissions, Academics, Research and Campus Life. Thus it strives to make it more convenient to display information from the international readers’ point of view. Teachers and students can not only have access to the information they need through the website, but also to a unified interface that can provide information and services. Thus a one-stop service platform takes shape.
Highlighting Scientific Research Strength; Promoting International Exchange
At the same time, the new English website is dedicated to presenting the academic research of the our university, displaying research awards and achievements, laboratories, scientific research centers and research institutes in the Research section, and also highlighting human social science research of our university, including the Feng Jicai Literature and the Art Research Institute, the Wang Xuezhong Institute of Arts, the APEC Sustainable Energy Center, the National Intellectual Property Strategy Implementation Research Base and other research achievements as well as awards for human social science research. It also demonstrates our achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research and social service, which help highlight our international reputation and status, stress our outstanding scientific research strength, and further promote international academic exchange.
Promoting the Special Character of TJU; Spreading Chinese Traditional Culture
This reconstruction of the English website added large numbers of activities characteristic of TJU and highlighting outstanding Chinese traditional culture. The Campus Life column not only brings in the Tianjin University History Museum, Art Gallery and Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition sections etc., it also includes plentiful images and texts, show-casing the colorful artistic atmosphere and the outcomes of humanistic education of our university from diverse aspects.
The abundant supply of information such as campus life, art culture, and campus activity can help spread the special characteristics of TJU and disseminate the university culture.
Responding to Multiple User Experience; Integrating Development with the Internet
The new English website also adds video, audio etc. into the content construction, makes direct broadcasts of video more convenient through technological methods, displays colorful campus life in a more three-dimensional way, and at the same time facilitates online communication. It is designed to facilitate mobile internet usage: when users open the page with terminals of a different size, the page will adapt to the screen size and readjust the picture size and content location to avoid reading barriers, through which the everyone will have a better user experience as it better suits reader needs when visiting the website on mobile phones and tablet computers.
Since the project of development of the new English website of TJU started in October, 2015, after extensive research and consultation, it has earned supports of teachers and students, alumni, and offices and departments including the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of Undergraduate Affairs, the Office of Science and Technology, Personnel Office, Graduate School, the Office of International Cooperation, the Committee of Youth League, Archives, and colleges and schools.
