I am Zhao Danning, a senior student of the School of Computer Software. I am honored to share the story of my hard work, pains and gains as well as my perseverance along the way at Tianjin University. 

A weighted score of less than 80 points once made me suspect that I might be a loser in study. However, what happened later made me believe that perseverance will ultimately give you a huge return. I have experienced a journey full of hardships, and ultimately achieved a weighted score, of only 70 to more than 90. I led the team to complete two national college students’ innovation and entrepreneurship training programs. I was also awarded 30 honors including the second prize of the International Students Mathematical Contest and a National Scholarship and I was recommended for admission to be a Postgraduate student at Tianjin University. I would like to use my own experience to tell each of you not to give up whether the current situation is satisfactory or not, because there is growth called “making progress”, there is success to be found in “counter-attack”.  

I became a student cadre at the School. At the 10th Party Congress of Tianjin University, I participated as a student representative, giving suggestions for the planning and development of the University. I participated and organized various types of training at different levels. 

I come from a border town in the northeast of China. One of my summer vacations was spent in a mountainous area of Sichuan province, 3,000 kilometers from my home. Although I could not change the situation of this rural area in just a few months, the teaching experience and supporting education really changed me. A person, in my view, always needs to contribute in his own way to the community and sometimes you have to sacrifice something. Having rejected Huawei’s 250,000yuan annual salary, I chose after graduation to support education in rural areas. After another year and another 3,000 kilometers, I will go to the northwest border of China in Burqin County of Xinjiang to work there. The President, Xi Jinping has pointed out the importance of education in poverty alleviation. I am not sure how much of a contribution I can make for this great cause, but I want to do my best. In the past few years, I have been to Yan’an, to Liang Jiahe and to the Shi Kumen in Shanghai. I feel more and more that the interpretation of the word “responsibility” is to do something really meaningful to turn the tide of the times. This is my understanding of patriotism. 

In the pursuit of art and beauty, I currently cherish my love for international ballroom dancing. Up till now, I have participated in a number of special performances by the Peiyang Ballroom Dancing Club, including being part of the welcome party for freshmen for three consecutive years, to show my understanding of beauty to other people. However, this journey is often filled with loneliness and hardship. Once, I competed with a Russian girl for second prize, and eventually I won the prize, surpassing her by five points. I have twice taken the Tianjin Dancesport Championship and broken the record in the history of Tianjin University. I will always maintain the pursuit of beauty: my dancing youth on campus! 

Time flies. It is my fourth year at Tianjin University. With a solid and systematized knowledge base, wholehearted dedication, deep patriotism and relentless pursuit of beauty as my support, now I have to embark on a new journey. I will always remember the very reason why I embarked on the journey: to keep moving forward and continue my seven-year-story at Tianjin University.
