On October 14, 2017, the results of the “Hou Debang Chemical Science and Technology Award” organized by the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC) were released at the 2017 CIESC Annual Meeting (also the Meeting of the 95th Anniversary of CIESC), held in Beijing. Tianjin University Professor Yuan Yingjin won an achievement award, and Professor Su Rongxin and Associate Professor Wang Tuo were earned youth awards.
Altogether, five persons gained achievement awards, and 29 others youth awards.
Hou Debang, the 23rd to 30th Chairman of the CIESC, is regarded as one of the pioneers and founders of modern China’s national chemical industry.
The “Hou Debang Chemical Science and Technology Award” was established by CIESC not only for the sake of commemorating Hou’s contributions to chemical industrial development, but also to encourage Chinese chemical science and technology workers to be dedicated to innovation in the chemical industry for national development. Since 1999, this award has been held for eight sessions, to over 150 elite awardees of science and technology in chemical engineering, including Academician Xu Xi from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Academicians Shen Yinchu, Xu Nanping, and Zhang Suojiang from the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
