On October 16, 2017, the 18th Chinese National Congress on Catalysis (18th NCC) was opened in Tianjin, China. About 3,000 Chinese and international experts in the field of catalysis attended the conference which lasted for five days (October 16-20, 2017).
Professor Ma Xinbin, Dean of TJU’s School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, presided over the opening ceremony. Professor Bao Xinhe, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the Catalysis Society of China, Fan Yingzi, Deputy Director of Tianjin Science and Technology Commission, Professor Hu Wenping, Vice President of Tianjin University, and Bai Haili, Deputy Director of the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission spoke at the opening ceremony.
The 18th NCC bore the theme of “Catalytic science and technology in sustainable environment, energy and economic development”. During the five-day congress, three plenary lectures were scheduled on October 16 and delivered successively by Wang Ye from Xiamen University, Zhou Qilin from Nankai University, and Zong Baoning from SINOPEC Research Institute of Petroleum. There were two other plenary lectures on October 20. The speakers were Graham J. Hutchings, from Cardiff University, and Song Chunshan, from the Pennsylvania State University. In addition, there were 42 keynote lectures, 80 invited lectures, 213 oral sessions and 2,028 posters, which involved many core topics in the field of catalysis, such as catalytic materials, characterization of catalysts, new catalytic reactions, catalytic conversion of biomass and catalytic synthesis. Some famous companies and manufacturers were invited to the congress to display their catalytic products and promote technical exchange between academic institutes and industrial enterprises.
The 18th NCC provided a platform for the display of the latest progress and achievements in catalytic theories and technologies, and for further exchange of views among Chinese and foreign scholars, which will definitely contribute to the advancement of China's catalytic science and technology.
The congress was organized by the Catalysis Society of China, and co-organized by Tianjin University (TJU), CNOOC Tianjin Chemical Engineering Research and Design Institute, and the Hebei University of Technology.
