Chinese Calligraphy Welcomes International Learners

 Campus

The international MBA students from Tianjin University enjoyed a wonderful calligraphy night with Professor Bai Shi on September 26th.

Professor Bai, a great calligrapher, organized this activity and shared basic knowledge of calligraphy with the participants. He  enjoyed teaching the international students how to use the writing brush and Xuan paper, and about how Chinese characters developed with different styles. Holding the special brush and paper for writing Chinese calligraphy in hand, the international students were excited and couldn’t wait to have a try. The first character they learned was “人”, which means “people”. “I love it! I enjoy a kind of peaceful feeling when I’m writing. It’s amazing!” a student said.

Professor Bai also shared his ideas about teaching international students Chinese calligraphy, “We should not only provide academic knowledge to international students but also give more opportunities to them to enjoy the brilliant Chinese traditional culture.” With the success of this calligraphy class, Bai is planning to hold more culture exchange activities about traditional Chinese painting and the Chinese tea ceremony.
