The 11th International Seminar on Speech Production Opens in Tianjin

The 11th International Seminar on Speech Production, sponsored by the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA) and hosted by Tianjin University, opened in Tianjin on October 16, 2017. It was the first time that the Seminar had been held in Asia.

Vice President of Tianjin University Hu Wenping delivered a welcoming speech. Professor Parsal Perrier from ISCA addressed the audience. Leaders from Tianjin University’s School of Computer Science and Technology and School of Computer Software attended the opening ceremony.

The Seminar invited the founder of ISCA, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo, Professor Fujisaki Hiroya to give a special lecture, Use of Language in Human Communication: A Model. Professor Takayuki Ito, Professor Michael Smotherman, Professor Marilyn Vihman and Professor Véronique Delvaux were invited to give keynote speeches on the theme. The Seminar also received about a hundred high-level academic papers in the field.

Speech production belongs to basic research, providing a theoretical basis for further research on speech recognition and semantic recognition. Research on speech production plays a significant role in the development of artificial intelligence. The Seminar’s opening in Tianjin suggests that the achievements made by Chinese researchers in the field has been affirmed by their international counterparts. The Tianjin Key Laboratory of Cognitive Computing and Application at Tianjin University has made outstanding contributions.
