On November 9, Sun Guangping, TJU Vice Party Secretary and Tian Zhensheng, the donor representative of the Chunhui Award, visited the former TJU President Li Shusen’s family. The former President Li Shusen was a famous educator and he was awarded Chunhui Lifetime Contribution Award.
Li Shusen’s wife, Ni Zheng, as the family representative, received the award and the autograph book of the class for training English teachers whose students graduated in 1967. Having graduated 50 years ago, the classmates still remember President Li’s sincere entreaty during their first lesson for them to make relentless efforts to give back to the motherland. This September, they together donated 6 million to set up the TJU Chunhui Education Fund, of which Chunhui Lifetime Contribution Award was set up for scholars who have made great contributions for the better development of TJU’s foreign language discipline. The Chunhui Education Fund includes three awards: the Chunhui Scholarship, the Chunhui Faculty Award and the Chunhui Lifetime Contribution Award and the Chunhui Special Fund.
Tianjin University alumni donors of the Chunhui Education Fund are the students who entered Tianjin University in 1962. In 1965, they were elected into the class for training English teachers established by the then President Li Shusen and taught by Zhang Zhongying, the famous English language scholar, which laid a foundation for TJU foreign language education. After graduation, they made contributions in various fields. And now they anticipate that the fund will be conducive to the development of the TJU foreign language discipline and talent training. Alumni Wang Dawei said: “There were fifteen students in our class, and four have passed away. We are now in our seventies. We hope we can repay our alma mater in our remaining years. What we are doing now is to make the Chunhui Scholarship work. Even if we were gone, the Chunhui Scholarship will still exist. And as long as Tianjin University exists, the Chunhui Scholarship will exist.”
