2017 Global Infrastructure Projects Forum Opens in Beijing

On December 10, 2017 the Global Infrastructure Projects Forum opened in Beijing. The forum was co-sponsored by Tianjin University, China International Contractors Association, the British Embassy in Beijing, the Management Committee of Dongjiang Free Trade Port Zone of Tianjin, and the Tianjin Commission of Commerce.

The forum attracted nearly 500 leaders and experts from different governments, business associations, and enterprises from both China and UK. The forum focused on the global infrastructure projects, and discussed the development of the “Belt and Road” Initiative, global cooperation on production capacity, investment, construction, and operation of infrastructure, corporate governance for multinational engineering companies, and training of talent in international engineering management.

The opening ceremony of the forum was hosted by Professor Zhang Shuibo, deputy director of the College of Management and Economics of Tianjin University. The Tianjin University-China International Contractors Association Training Base for Global Project Management Talent, the Tianjin University IPM-Chartered Builder Learning Center, and the Tianjin University-Tianjin Commission of Commerce Training Base for International Contractors were successively inaugurated.

During the forum, Professor Chen Yongqiang from the College of Management and Economics of Tianjin University released the research findings of the Global Infrastructure Project Platform on behalf of the TJU global project management research team. The establishment of the Global Infrastructure Project Platform was supported by the major disciplines at TJU and it aimed to promote discipline development, assist enterprises to operate and to serve state strategies.

On the eve of the forum, a preparatory meeting was held by TJU in Beijing. It received great support from the TJU Alumni Association in Beijing. The TJU Party Secretary, Li Jiajun, the President, Zhong Denghua, and Alumni Association Chairman, Liu Jianping attended the meeting and delivered speeches. During the meeting, over 50 attendees had lively discussions concerning the core issues of the forum.
