Winning Respect from the People of Qatar: Meng Chao Involved in the Belt and Road Initiative

Meng Chao graduated from Tianjin University in 2011. He is a Deputy Manager of the Second Office, Engineering Management Department, China Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd (CHEC). He took charge of the contract and business operations of the Qatar-Doha New Port Project. 

The Qatar-Doha New Port Project, launched by the Qatar Government began in January, 2011 and was put into use on December 1st, 2016. It was then the largest port project in the world to be constructed in one stage. The port, named after the King of Qatar, will become one of the largest in the Middle East. After completion, the port will be able to handle six million standard containers. The project aims at improving local infrastructure, giving impetus to the development of local economy and elevating Qatar’s global strategic significance. It will also facilitate the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Through the project, Chinese engineering companies proved their strength, laying a solid foundation for China’s further participation in international engineering construction. 

For those aspiring to become international engineers, the priority is to foster an international view. It is also important to become a person with multidisciplinary knowledge of management, technology, language and communication. Confidence is also required in the international market. 

His message: One should cherish lofty ideals while making painstaking efforts.
