The final of the first National College Student Chemical Engineering Experiment Competition was held at Tianjin University from August 14, to 16, 2017. On the basis of the performance of the team members in competitions of theory, simulation and experimental operation, six grand prizes, 20 first prizes and thirty-eight second prizes are awarded. Teams from Tianjin University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Xiamen University won the Grand Prizes.

The team from Tianjin University comprised junior students from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, including Zhang Qicheng, Xin Chen and Yu Haipeng, which won the first place of the grand prizes (the top prize) after competing in three competition items.

In July, the three students first won the Grand Prize in the qualifying tournament for North China. After the tournament, through continuous review and training, their comprehensive abilities were further enhanced. The three students achieved good results in the competition of the theory of chemical engineering principles, experimental operation and simulation showing a calm attitude and their reasonable arrangements, which showed outstanding personal qualities and team spirit. Finally, they won first place with the highest scores in the Competition.

The competition is co-sponsored by the Teaching Guidance Committee of Chemistry and Engineering in Institutions of Higher Education, the Ministry of Education, and the China Education Association of Chemical Industry and undertaken by the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Tianjin University. East Simulation Company and Beijing Oubeier Software Technology Development Co. Ltd provided technology support.

Since May, 2017, 326 teams from 194 universities participated in the competition through university’s selection, qualifying competition in six areas of China (northeast, north China, east China, and south central, northwest, southwest region) and the national final. In the final, 64 teams from 64 universities in China took part in the competition. About 350 persons attended the event, including the expert representatives from the Teaching Guidance Committee of Chemistry and Engineering.
