From August 8 to 11, 2017, the final of the Tenth National University Student Social Practice and Science Energy Saving & Emission Reduction Contest was held at the North China Electric Power University. Three teams from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Quishi Honors College from Tianjin University won two first prizes and a second prize, and another eight teams from Tianjin University won third prizes, creating the best result to date.
The final lasted three days. Through a series of competitions, including the booth exhibition, on-site inspection and question-and-answer defense, two entries, “the application of ‘silicon building’ – small-scale distributed PV in cities” and “a portable heat pump seawater desalination device” won the first prize, and the entry, “mosaic flexible solar cells module” won the second prize. “In the contest, we encouraged each other, holding the spirit of ‘seeking truth from facts’. We are so glad we could win honor for our school”, said Miao Xuanbo, the representative of students participating in the contest.
The “National University Student Social Practice and Science Energy Saving & Emission Reduction Contest” is a great event for the energy and power engineering disciplines of nationwide colleges and universities as well as in the field of energy sources of our country and energy saving and emission reduction. The annual contest has the theme, “save energy and reduce emission, promote green energy” and the aim, “cultivate and popularize the awareness of energy saving and emission reduction, improve the ability of scientific and technological innovation”. The contest covers a number of areas, revealing contemporary college students’ concerns about energy saving and emission reduction, testing students’ ability for independent thinking, and showing their spirit of creative innovation and assiduous study. The on-campus preliminary contest was hosted by Tianjin University and undertaken by the Student Association of Science and Technology of School of Mechanical Engineering.
